I start my day by hitting the gym for an intense workout session; I do strict diets hoping to shed some weight. I swear I do not do this because my body doesn’t impress me, but because it doesn’t impress the society. Every day is a struggle – a neighbor, a relative and sometimes even a friend reminds me that I’ve gained a lot of weight, forcing me to fight with my body.

Do I enjoy it? Of course not and I’m sure anybody who is exercising or dieting under pressure isn’t enjoying any bit of it.

I’ve been through a lot, I’ve heard people say mean stuff about me and stare at me, but nothing bothers me now! I’m happy to be the ‘fat woman’ that I am, and if you’re just as fat like me, you should be happy too. Stop blaming others for how you feel. Remember what Eleanor Roosevelt said? She said, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” So sorry to burst the bubble girls but it’s not the others who mocked you, it was you who degraded yourself and gave them the liberty shame you.

I understand and agree that a ‘thin and lean body’ with the ‘perfect abs’ has become the new ‘vogue’, but this does not mean that you have to fit into the norms set by the society. Let people call you fat, curvy, fuller, plus size, obese, chubby or with any other similar word that suits their taste. It is okay to exercise if you want to but don’t starve yourself to death because someone else told you. Give yourself treats that you love; it’s okay to munch a cheese burst pizza along with some fries, and chocolate if you want, or you can just enjoy some juice if that pleases you. Remember the life that you’re leading is your own and no one has the right to judge you on the basis of your size, the clothes that you wear or the food that you eat. Relax!

As for me, I learned things the long way – it took me several years to accept my ‘fat body’ and to understand that there is no definition of a perfect body. Whether I’m fat or lean people will always find their reasons to call me names.

The kind of negativity revolving around plus size doesn’t irritate me. I’m a believer of self-love, my size doesn’t bother me any longer. To the people who’re over sympathetic for me, I’d like to say, “I don’t care. Stop wasting your time here!”

Believe me when I say you’re going to feel extremely confident and comfortable if you learn to wear your curves proudly. Remember you’re a healthy beautiful woman and nobody can take that away from you.

Molescum – Molluscum Contagiosum

Molescum – also known as Molluscum Contagiosum, or simply Mollescum – is a viral infection of the skin. Molescum is actually pretty much harmless but poses a significant inconvenience for anybody who becomes infected with the virus. Molluscum Contagiosum in children is where it is most commonly seen. However, adults can and do become infected. Persons with compromised immune systems are most likely to be easily infected. Even healthy persons, however, are vulnerable to molescum because it is such a highly contagious virus.

Molescum spreads easily through skin to skin contact, contact with infected materials such as towels and clothing and often through sexual contact. The actual condition Molescum causes is a patch of Molluscum Contagiosum warts that are nothing more than pimples to the eye. They don’t hurt or itch but they can take very long to go away. In fact, Molescum resolves itself naturally in a healthy human but the amount of time it takes (up to a year!) causes many people to seek treatment.

Molluscum contagiosum treatment usually involves topical creams, surgical extraction of the molluscum lesions and even something as far-out as using the juice from a particular type of beetle to dissipate the warts. Surgical removal is generally quick and easy and if done well, leaves no scarring. This is a fantastic option because while creams can work in time, molescum spreads very easily to healthy skin on the same person. Molescum spreads especially well on wet skin. The main reason to get rid of Molescum is to prevent spreading it to others and also for cosmetic reasons. The molluscum warts are rather unsightly, particularly if they occur around or on the face or genitals.

Another treatment option for molescum sufferers is to have their molluscum warts frozen off. This process is only slightly painful and sees decent results. Children, in particular, should be treated as soon as a molescum diagnosis is confirmed because of their gregarious nature. Spreading mollescum to others is almost guaranteed among kids! For individual molluscum warts, you can remove them yourself at home. All you need to do is sterilize a needle and pierce the skin on top of the pimple.

Can a Tingling and Itchy Scalp Mean That Regrowth is Happening After Hair Loss? My Opinion

I'm asked this question pretty regularly. People really hope that that the tightness, tingling, and itching on their scalp means that they are experiencing massive regrowth, but many also know that they experienced this same thing when those same hairs were coming out or shedding. The truth is that any time when a large number of hair follicles are either shedding or growing, you can sometimes have these same symptoms. They are ways to tell which one is happening though, which I'll discuss in the following article.

What Is The Time Frame In Which You're Feeling The Tingling And Itching ?: One Way to Help you determine if you're starting to see some regrowth is to ask yourself where you might be in the hair cycle. Generally speaking, you're going to start seeing new hair about 2 months (give or take) following the beginning of the shedding or hair fall. If you're experiencing these symptoms very soon after this first occurred, then it's less likely that this is because of regrowing, since the time frame is occurring too soon.

Some Ways To Tell If What You're Experiencing Is Regrowth (Or Just More Shedding On The Way 🙂 You probably already know that "burning scalp syndrome" is the name given to scalp issues that often correspond with dramatic hair loss. Many people worry that what they hope is a symptom of regrowth is really just this burning scalp condition continuing on or getting worse. (And, it is possible to have the syndrome at the same time that your hair is regrowing.) But, there are ways to tell which and which. And, you can often do this by just taking a close look at your hair and scalp.

Start by standing in front of a mirror and pulling back your hair line. You should see a fairly generous amount of little baby hairs coming in. They may begin fine and light in color, but they should quickly start to thicken up and darken if everything else going on is normal.

Another thing to try is to slick your hair straight back. Shine a bright light on your head and see if you can pinpoint any short hairs sticking up between the slicked back strands. (It can help to hold up a piece of paper behind you so that you can more easily see.) Better yet, spray your hair (on the top) with dry shampoo. If you are liberal enough when you spray, your hair will turn white. This will make it much easier to see those short regrowth hairs.

Finally, you can lean your head to one side and then comb your hair all to opposite side. Now, look by your ear area and see if there are short hairs sticking out and going against the grain. All of these methods should help you to pinpoint a new supply of baby strands.

What To Look For In Healthy New Hair That Is Growing Without Problems: As I said, the new strands might be lighter in color or look kind of skimpy at first. But once the hair is long enough that you can easily see it, then it should begin to darken up and be more normal in width. If you are unsure about this, you can compare one of the new hairs against one of your longer hairs. This will tell you if the diameter is similar.

The reason that this is a concern is that you do not want to see miniaturized regrowth. If you do, this is one indication that you may have some androgens that have affected your follicles and your ability to support healthy hair and a normal scalp. Generally, the sooner that this is addressed, the better your results are going to be. Generally speaking, hair that is only slightly miniaturized responds better to treatment that hair that has been greatly affected over a longer period of time.

Regularly consuming large amounts of refined sugar can cause serious harm. Refined sugars include all the commonly know white sugars, but may also include honey, maple syrup, and rice syrup, if refined. The process of heating, bleaching or purifying will inactivate enzymes as well as depleted important nutrients. Eating refined sugars will fill the body with empty calories, stimulate over-eating and interfere with mineral absorption. Corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup are sometimes the more problematic refined sugars. These are the "natural sweetener" in most bottled juices and many foods. High sugar foods make rapid blood sugar changes, which often lead to emotional outbursts when blood sugar is high as well as depression when it drops. Acesulfame-K is another dangerous chemical that is being added to many products, especially gum, as a sweetener. It has been proven to cause cancer in laboratory animals.

If you suspect these chemicals could be causing any health concerns for you, stop using them for 60 days (that's how long it will take to get out of your system) and see if you have improvement.

In addition to products containing artificial sweeteners touted as 'sugar-free' lining grocery shelves, a new problem now comes in the form of "fat-free" and "low-fat" products. The fact is, because we feel so harried and rushed these days, we tend to reach for a caffeinated beverage sooner than we used to. When we feel like we are completely spent, and can’t go another step, we reach for a caffeinated drink to give us that sudden boost of energy. To be sure, this is not the healthiest choice we can make, but it is often the fastest solution to the problem when faced with flagging energy and strength.

It has been estimated that the average amount of sleep that adults get within the United States has recently decreased from 8 hours per night to just 6 1/2 hours per night. This is an astonishing drop and likely accounts for the lack of energy many of us experience. Energy drinks help us fill this gap when our energy is low. Even though the boost that we feel from these drinks is not long lasting, it is usually enough to get us through the day. And for many of us, it’s easier to have a caffeine-laced drink than try to change our sleep schedules to include 1 1/2 hours or more sleep each night.

Other than getting more sleep each night, or drinking caffeinated beverages, there is one health-wise thing you can do to increase your energy during the day. Start drinking as much water as you can and forgo the “energy drinks.” Your body craves water, and operates at a higher level when fully hydrated. You will find that when you begin drinking more water each day, you will see a rise in your energy level, feel more alert, and have increased stamina to get you through the day. Water will help increase your energy level the natural way, and you won’t face the risk of becoming addicted to caffeine.

Your body obtains glucose from the food you take in, the liver and muscles also supply your body with glucose. Blood transports the glucose to cells through the body. Insulin, a chemical hormone, helps the body's cells to take in the glucose. Insulin is made by the beta cells of the pancreas and then released into the bloodstream.

If the body does not make enough insulin or the insulin does not work the way it should glucose is not able to enter the body's cells. Instead the glucose must remain in the blood causing an increase in blood glucose level. This high blood glucose level causes pre-diabetes or diabetes.

Pre-diabetes means that blood glucose level is higher than average but not high enough for a diabetes diagnosis. Having pre-diabetic glucose levels increases risks for developing type 2 diabetes as well as heart disease and stroke. Still, if you have pre-diabetes there are many ways to reduce your risk of getting type 2 diabetes. Moderate physical activity and a healthy diet accompanied by modest weight loss can prevent type 2 diabetes and help a person with pre-diabetes to return to normal blood glucose levels.

Symptoms of diabetes include excessive thirst, frequent urination, being very hungry, feeling tired, weight loss without trying, the appearance of sores that slowly heal, having dry and itchy skin, loss of feeling or tingling in feet, and blurry eyesight. Still, some people with diabetes do not experience any of these symptoms.

Diabetes can be developed at any age. There are three main types of diabetes: type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes.

The insulin is unable to help the cells take in glucose, these results in high blood glucose levels. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. An unhealthy weight contributed by a high calorie diet and lack of physical activity increases the risk for developing this form of diabetes.

African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Asian and Pacific Islanders are at particularly high risk for developin Type 2 diabetes.

  • Having a history of heart disease.
  • Having a history of gestational diabetes.
  • An inactive lifestyle

Prevention

Modest changes in lifestyle can help prevent the development of type 2 diabetes in those at risk. Here are some helpful tips.

  • Maintain a healthy body weight. Being overweight has many negative effects on one's health and can prevent the body from properly using insulin. It also can contribute to high blood pressure. Research shows that even a modest amount of weight loss can reduce one's risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
  • Make healthy food choices. What we put into our bodies has big consequences in our health and how our body functions. Eating healthy helps control body weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels.
  • Be active. Find a physical activity you enjoy and that gets your heart pumping, sometimes walking briskly, dancing, or yard work. Try to be physically active for at least 30 minutes a day 5 days a week – research shows that this helps to reduce the risk for type 2 diabetes.

Symptoms and Diagnosis

Diabetes is sometimes referred to as a "silent" disease because people may not show any signs or symptoms. Make physical activity a part of your daily life. Go on walks, ride a bike, or garden. Try dancing or swimming, or simply stay active by doing work around the house. Try different activities and look for ways to increase physical activity in your everyday life. Try to get some sort of exercise every day for at least 30 minutes. If you are new to exercising, start slowly and gradually increase the amount and intensity of your exercise.

Medication

Insulin

People with type 1 diabetes and some people with type 2 diabetes use Insulin to lower blood glucose levels. People must take insulin when their body does not take enough of it. Insulin is a liquid hormone that must be injected with shots or an insulin pump.

Diabetes Pills

In many cases of type 2 diabetes, the body makes enough insulin but is not properly used by the body. Diabetes pills are used to correct this problem. Some are taken once daily while others must be taken more often. It is important to ask your doctor or pharmacist how to take your pills. Also, be sure to talk with your doctor if you are experiencing side effects or your pills make you sick. Finally, remember that diabetes pills should be used in addition to a healthy diet and exercise.

Other cases of type 2 diabetes do not require insulin or diabetes pills, rather a healthy diet and regular physical activity will treat their diabetes.

Self-Monitoring

It is important to keep track of your blood glucose levels regularly by using a blood glucose monitor. Logging these levels in a diary may also be helpful to get a better idea of ​​how your treatment is going. Lowering your A1C to a healthy level, will help you avoid the complications associated with diabetes such as heart disease and kidney damage.

High blood pressure can lead to stroke, kidney disease, and other complications. Usually people with diabetes want to keep their blood pressure less than 130/80. Have your blood pressure checked at every doctor visit. If it is too high, talk with your doctor about how you can lower it.

Cholesterol, particularly LDL cholesterol, is a fat like substance that builds up in your arms. If your cholesterol levels are too high it causes your arteries narrow. This can lead to heart disease or a heart attack. People with diabetes should try to keep their cholesterol less than 100. Have your doctor check your cholesterol, and if it is too high talk with him or her about how to reach your cholesterol goal.

Foot and Skin Care

High glucose levels and reduced blood supply to the limbs can cause severe nerve damage and loss of feeling. Unnoticed injuries can contribute to ulcers, which may lead to amputation. Because of this, foot care is very important for people with diabetes. Check your feet every day for cuts, ret spots, sores, infected toenails, and swelling. Report any issues to your doctor, and be sure to have your feet checked at every doctor visit. People with diabetes are more likely to experience skin injuries and infections; for this reason, taking care of your skin is also important.

Simple and Affordable Kitchen Tools for Healthy Cooking

I do a fair bit of cooking demos and I'm glad to say I do not bring a lot of fancy health-cooking gizmos along. Just some simple, affordable basics. It's best to stick with natural materials- wood, bamboo, glass and ceramic / stone. Not only are they more natural and risk less pollution to your foods, but they lend more natural beauty to your kitchen as well.

So what are some of the essential wholesome eating kitchen tools that I recommend, that most anyone can afford?

Wooden or bamboo cutting boards – avoid plastic and synthetics. I like having a small board designed for interviews and garlic, and a larger board for fruits and veggies. Alternately you could mark one side of a board for interviews / garlic and the other side for fruits / veggies.

Bamboo cooking utensils – quite inexpensive, easy to clean and so attractive in the kitchen!

A large chef's knife – great for cutting onions and large fruits and veggies. Mine is not anything fancy- just from a department store. Maybe a $ 75.00 knife is worth it, but I just can not bring myself to make the investment to find out.

Smaller serrated and paring knifes – for cutting fruit and veggies

Vegetable peeler – theOXO brand peeler is great.

A garlic press – I love my Pampered Chef garlic press.

Glass or ceramic mixing bowls – do not interact with the ingredients in the bowl.

Glass measuring pitchers – a 2 cup and a 4 cup. These are really handy for measuring ingredients, for measuring water and to use when mixing up small amounts of ingredients or the wet ingredients for a recipe.

Measuring cups and spoons – in general, I do not like any fancy measuring tools- especially not the adjustable measuring cups and spoons. They may be handy to use, but can be miserable to clean. I keep two sets of measuring cups plus two to three sets of measuring spoons in separate small bins in a drawer at my island (where I do most of my food prep). I toss the "1/2 Tbsp." measures (they take up space and are used so infrequently).

Glass cannning jars (1/2 pint for drinking, pint for drinking and storage and quart-size for storage and sprouting)

Spoonula – so handy for mixing and scraping. This is the only silicone tool I use (I'll probably convince myself out of using it soon).

Salad spinner – a little pricier purchase, but definitely worth it if you're going to be preparing salads regularly. I recommend the OXO brand.

Baking stones – a little bit of a splurge here. These are not the cheapest items, but are a wholesome addition to your kitchen and allow for easy clean-up. Check online and at yardsales for good buys on these.

And, last but not least, one of my favorites: the push-up measuring cup! This is great for oily or sticky ingredients (nut butters, coconut oil, honey, molasses, etc.). You simply draw the inner cup down to the marking for the amount you desire, add the other messy ingredient and then push the inner liner from the bottom. No scooping and scraping out of a traditional cup. Also, you can continue to reuse it for more messy ingredients in the same recipe without washing. And it cleans up easily in the dishwasher.

Healthy Central Auditory Processing Is Essential To Child Development

Central auditory describing describes how the brain interpret information that is heard. This function occurs automatically, without the individual being conscious of it. When someone's ability to correctly understand and order the meaning of the sounds that they received is impaired in some fashion, the ability of that person, particularly if they are a child, to learn and develop can be limited. The collection of disorders that affect this crucible ability is known by the umbrella term of Central Audit Processing Disorder or CAPD.

CAPD is not caused by any defect in the structure of the ear; rather, it is a condition where sounds, such as speech, are not comprehended in a normal fashion. In simple terms, CAPD is not dissimilar to color-blindness. Those who are color-blind see the same images as everyone else, but can not distinguish the hues and shades of those images. Those with this hearing disorder receive sounds, but interpreted them differently.

While the causes of central auditory disorder are still being studied, they appear to manifest in three basic situations: acquired, hereditary, and developmental. The acquired scenario involves some kind of damage to the part of the nervous system that is responsible for comprehending sound, and could be the result of a trauma or illness. The hereditary form can be genetic in nature and can be directly passed across generations from parent to child. The developmental variety is the hardest to pinpoint, except in cases where an underlying physiological cause, such as epileptic aphasia, can lead to a regression in normal development.

Testing central auditory processing can help determine if the disorder exists and if so, the types of therapeutic approaches can then be taken. This is especially important for children, as problems analyzing verbal signals can affect their potential for success in school, as well as their overall social development. The symptoms that indicate that testing is needed can range from poor performance in school, difficulty with listening skills, behavioral concerns, and trouble concentrating or handling multiple tasks.

Diagnosing central auditory issues often involves a multi-disciplinary approach. Trained audiologists can administrator sound-related tests and monitor how the listener responds to each by repeating what was heard, selecting the sound, or otherwise pointing how the signal was understood. Physical examinations can determine whether any structural or health issues are involved, while testing the cognitive functions can reveal other potential causes.

While these types of situations are most often observed in children, adults can also have audit issues that affect their daily lives. Given the many possible manifestations of CAPD and the unique characteristics of each individual, treatment for this condition will vary from one person to the next.
