"We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community... Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own." -Cesar Chavez
What clients have to say...
"...you were and are a driving force in my life!" - A. Pike
"Adeline was my personal trainer for three years. Her coaching was always positive and focused on a balanced lifestyle. I was in great physical shape and happy with the education she provided with regard to good eating habits. I have continued her recommendations to this day. While I will never be model thin, my health has improved and I attribute this to her program. She was always a delight to work with because she practices what she preaches. You will feel and look better with her guidance."
- F. Garsten
"Adeline's philosophy regarding the integration of nutrition and exercise are valuable concepts which have provided benefits to me long after my personal training sessions have ended. The lessons learned have become an ingrained part of my daily routine and I will treasure this experience for the rest of my life." - Michaela K.
" I started at your gym when I was 50 because a Dexascan showed a slight bone loss in my hips and spine. After two years of doing circuit weight training, my spine bone density increased by 8%. Since then, I have had a scan every two years (just had my 4th), and I remain stable. Personal Edge Fitness got me started with weight training in a friendly, non-intimidating atmosphere with caring and knowledgeable trainers who provided the personal touch. Only because I felt comfortable with you and Kevin and the general ambience at Personal Edge, was I able to persevere and have the willpower to continue. As a result, today when most of my friends in their 50's are taking Fosomax for their unfortunate bone loss, I need no medication, feel strong and healthy, and continue to weight train two - three times per week. In addition, I can lift reasonably heavy objects at work with no problem, and my heart and blood pressure are in great shape! Today with the aging population and osteoporosis being a serious health issue for postmenopausal women, I am so happy and grateful not to be one of the unlucky victims. I TOTALLY credit Personal Edge with sending me down the correct path for bone and heart health. Starting my weight training experience at Personal Edge was one of the best things I have done for myself. Also, it was important for me that you both had advanced education and training in your field." - RM Hawkins
"I had the privilege of having Adeline Driscoll as my personal trainer, both in the gym at her home and at Personal Edge Fitness in Riverhead, Long Island, New York. Over the years, Adeline showed me how fitness was a way of life. It works hand-in-hand with my long term membership in Weight Watchers. I learned that daily food intake and staying fit are the keys to a healthy life.
Adeline always made sure we worked on the total body-with exercises and equipment that were appropriate for each part. She would inform us as to the purpose of each exercise or piece of equipment and make sure that we were doing the exercise correctly, preventing muscle strain and other injuries. Adeline incorporated pieces of several exercise programs-Pilates and Step in particular-in our routines. She was always well-informed with the latest advice from fitness and health experts and would share information when appropriate. Each person's progress was recorded and goals were set.
Whether the class had just a few or ten to twelve participants, each person was always welcomed and well-cared for. Water breaks, warm-ups and cool-downs were an integral part of our exercise routine. If someone came in to class with a muscle strain or sore muscle or health problem, Adeline would immediately personalize/adapt their exercise routine for that class, making the most of their strengths and easing the "weakness".
I deeply miss Adeline's personal touch on my fitness regiment. Exercising at Personal Edge Fitness with Adeline had become an integral part of my life. Adeline's encouragement and inspiration kept me pumped up. Now at age 60, I have been retired from teaching elementary school for four years. These days, I am fortunate in having the opportunity to be active outdoors year round as I spend six months on eastern Long Island and six months in Jupiter, Florida. In both places, I walk a minimum of 45 minutes a day, at a medium pace and depending on the weather, swim, bike, play tennis or par three golf for another hour or so. I am just beginning to add jumping rope, with a few repetitions per time at this point. I also use weights for upper body work-outs along with an exercise ball for crunches and other exercises. Each morning I do several stretching exercises. All day long, I try to remember to drink my water and stay hydrated! I wouldn't be using the exercise ball or weights, or stretching if it wasn't for Adeline!
As I write down my thoughts and memories of working on fitness with Adeline, I am reminded of how much preparation and planning she put into each class and each client. Yes, that is just what I need to do. Plan and prepare! I have plenty of time in which to exercise. I just need to do it more often!" -
With pleasure,

"I am a 67 year old woman that owes her understanding of exercise and better eating to Adeline. I joined her studio in my 50's hoping to extend my life because I felt "dumpy and old" and wanted to stay healthy. Adeline is an excellent teacher - her personal training has stayed with me. I always try to incorporate some of the components she taught me into my daily life. She is missed in New York. Arizona, you have the gem!" -With fond memories...and good times, S. Auer
"I enjoyed my time with you at Personal Edge because you showed a real interest in me. You gave me special exercises that I could do there and on my own. I still remember how good I felt - quite proud of myself, since I hadn't exercised in many years. Now I am 75 years old with some arthritis, but I am still doing what I can." - CBT
"When I selected Personal Edge Fitness for personal training, I was seeking relief from constantly feeling fatigued, downtrodden and bloated. When I called their office to find out more about them, one of their employees gave Adeline and Kevin such rave reviews that made me feel very comfortable about going there for training. I made an appointment. Nonetheless, I was still apprehensive on my first day, thinking crazy thoughts, like “they might not want to train people like me.” And, “maybe my life is too complex to try to improve it through a fitness program.” I had battled cancer – twice. I had been sole caregiver for my husband throughout a lengthy, serious and terminal illness. Immediately following both tragedies, my mother came to stay with me so that I could care for her. When I started going to Personal Edge Fitness, I was feeling that I was nobody and I probably didn’t deserve to live a good life.
I met Adeline and Kevin, who both participated in my training. It wasn’t long before I also knew their family. We became friends and I felt I had known them all of my life. They made me feel so comfortable and, at the same time, they were focused, direct and “no-nonsense” with my training progress. I felt myself becoming stronger, as they continued to encourage me. They both would forbid me to emphasize weight, and insisted that I think more about strength. They had to be patient with my stubbornness; and they were.
Adeline and Kevin handled my training in a way that restored my dignity, recognized my identity, and allowed me to focus on being a person who is entitled to live a good life. Although I paid for my training, it was so rewarding that it felt like a gift."

"I was never into exercise and fitness. My excuse was that I never had time. I was a nurse working twelve hours a day - grabbing junk food when I could - getting a few hours of sleep and just doing all the wrong things. During a routine physical examination when I was 57 years of age and finally retired from work, my doctor strongly suggested, for improving my health and bone strengthening, that I start weightlifting and exercising. Where do I start this overwhelming task?
As soon as I met Adeline at Personal Edge Fitness, all my fears and anxieties disappeared. Her soothing and positive personality made me feel that this old non-exercising body could do it. I felt very comfortable after she performed a complete evaluation of what my capabilities were - how much could I stretch, how much weight I could lift and how strenuous I could exercise. She wrote up a complete program fitting my personal needs. She then reviewed every exercise machine with me and how to use it safely.
Was I thrilled at first doing all this exercising???? NO!! But, with Adeline's patience and encouragement, I started to enjoy coming to the studio and exercising. Exercise wasn't the only experience for me. Adeline is very knowledgeable about healthy eating and nutritious foods. She shared with us recipes, meal preparation and even some of her organic foods that she got each week from a CSA. She now had a new believer.
But I must say that one of Adeline's best attributes is how she engaged her clients in conversations, sharing experiences, problem solving, and life's happy moments. This made for a total healthy and happy experience.
My years of working in nursing have taught me that you are never too old to learn new things and you must always seek new experiences.
Adeline taught me so much and I can honestly say that I still follow her guidance. I go to the gym three times a week and enjoy it. My meals are planned around using local organic foods (meat and vegetables) and I eat well balanced meals. My husband is now even a believer.
Yes, I do miss Adeline and her wisdom, guidance and her friendship. But, I am happy that she has the opportunity to follow her dreams. I envy all those who will benefit from her teachings and sharing her experiences in obtaining vibrant health and balanced wellness." -Affectionately, Pat Vail
